what We Do

Olympic Ballet Theatre is a non-profit performing company with estimated audiences of 15,000 annually Including 4,000 school children.

In its 31st Season, OBT has become a mainstay of the Snohomish County arts scene. Newly established Artistic Directors Mara Vinson and Oleg Gorboulev, former Pacific Northwest Ballet principal and soloist, respectively, have worked with Olympic Ballet in various creative roles for the past five years. Most recently, they choreographed and directed OBT’s highly acclaimed premiere of Coppélia, The Girl with Enamel Eyes.

Vinson and Gorboulev are eager to bring fresh and challenging new works to Olympic Ballet Theatre’s 2011-12 performance season. In addition to our popular traditional performance of The Nutcracker in December, collaborations with live music are being planned, including Peter and the Wolf, with Edmonds based Cascade Symphony Orchestra, and highlights from The Sleeping Beauty with an exciting new work, Griffes, with the
Seattle Chamber Players.

A SHORT HISTORY

OBT recently premiered the joyful comedic ballet Coppélia, The Girl with Enamel Eyes. Heralded as a huge success by community members, Coppélia premiered April 2011 furnished with state of the art extraordinary sets from designer Hita von Mende, brand new exquisite costumes by Margreet Preston, as well as choreography by former PNB dancers Mara Vinson and Oleg Gorboulev.

OBT has performed its traditional production of The Nutcracker in Edmonds since 1982, at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue for ten years and celebrated 20 years with the Everett Symphony. For two years, OBT presented its delightful and full-length production in Seattle’s Meany Hall Theatre and the Mountlake Terrace Performing Arts Center. Currently, we perform this holiday classic in Edmonds, Everett, and Arlington. In all venues, hundreds of school children view our special one-hour performance, which features our trademark “Introduction to the Magic of Theatre,” a behind-the-scenes look at scenery, props, lighting and costumes.

OBT performed with live musical accompaniment, Peter & the Wolf plus Carnival of the Animals in collaboration with Cascade Symphony Orchestra. Performances were held at Edmonds Center for the Arts and the Byrnes Performing Arts Center in Arlington. This season OBT is scheduled to perform a new work with the Seattle Chamber Players. In Spring 2008, OBT performed the full-length ballet Giselle. Other classical productions include excerpts from Swan Lake, and new this season, highlights from The Sleeping Beauty.
