Local ballet theatre strives to make dancing enjoyable for all

“Sleeping Beauty is probably the hardest ballet you can perform,” according to company member and teacher Alberto Gaspar. Audience members can expect to see company members and Olympic Ballet School students performing technically challenging choreography all done under the artistic direction of Vinson and Gorboulev. Ballet is intended to look graceful, if audience members don’t leave admiring this art form for the elegance that is portrayed the dancers didn’t accomplish their jobs.

The set and scenic designs were eye catching. They reminded me a bit of the Stowell Sendak version (which is a good thing) but they were also very much their own unique designs. I loved the use of the doors, fireplace, and closets as entrances and exits for the dancers.    …One thing that immediately stood out to me was the choreography and movement of the young dancers. It was wonderful to see actual dancing by these young students as compared to other productions where they appear to be focused on just movement. The ballerina and nutcracker “dolls” were also a very nice touch.”  Read more

Welcome

Olympic Ballet Theatre is a non-profit performing company with estimated audiences of 15,000 annually, including 4,000 school children. In its 36th Season, OBT has become a mainstay of the Snohomish County arts scene, regularly touring to theatres in Everett, Edmonds and Arlington. Newly established Artistic Directors Mara Vinson and Oleg Gorboulev, former Pacific Northwest Ballet principal and soloist, respectively, have worked with Olympic Ballet in various creative roles for the past five years to develop new audiences for theatre dance. OBT provides high quality original and classical ballet productions while maintaining the family friendly ticketing prices and intimate venues that audiences love! In addition to its own performing company, world-renowned artists are featured in OBT productions. Live musical accompaniment and community partnerships are a value of Olympic Ballet and featured this season are creative collaborations with Cascade Symphony Orchestra and Seattle Chamber Players.
